Penongs Restaurant is one of the several famous barbecue food houses in Davao City. I’m not sure exactly sure just how many branches they have in Davao, but I frequent three of them:
* in front of NCCC Mall in Matina
* near Gasiano Mall of Davao
* in front of the People’s Park
Each of these branches are more clean-looking compared to other BBQ houses. The service is also fast and friendly.
The best-seller in Penongs is their Inato Meal, which is basically a budget meal made up of barbecue chicken, unlimited rice, soup and atsara. My favorite combo is Inato Meal No.2 (shown in photo above). You are usually given a choice what chicken part you prefer – leg (”paa“) or breast (”petso“). This combo is worth only 55 pesos.
Aside from the barbeque meals, Penongs also offers several other dishes such as “pancit”, and seafoods, among others. And unlike other restaurants, Penongs doesn’t really overprice softdrinks. In fact you can avail a small bottle of Coke or Pepsi for just 11 pesos.

luv gyud nako ning penongs! lami gyud ilang luto labi na ilang sinigang na baboy.. dli gyud na mawala sa akong order.. ganahan gyud mi mokaon sa akong pamilya dinha sa matina branch… sulit ug barato… i suggestm dungag ug daghan lamisa… heheehe….
I used to love Penong’s barbecue. I mean I still do now. However, there’s one instance that I got so pissed off and disappointed.
Me and my friends ate at Penong’s (Matina Branch), and because of their superb chicken meal, the resto was full packed. We had a hard time looking for a table. When we finally manage to find one, we ordered our fave meal but My God! it took us like eternity to eat! ang tagal dumating and to think we just ordered chicken barbecue and rice plus drinks! the other table are complaining too because of the slow service. other waiters were not , multi tasking either. They got busy with pag-aayos ng toothpick sa lalagyan instead of tending to the customers. I even heard one waiter said: Bahal mo diha uy! Such Customer Service!
The customers in the adjacent table decided to leave because mas nauna pa nabigyan yung huling dumating! Imagine! hay naku! and my cuzin complained about hilaw! The other customers wished to speak to the manager however they were not given attention. The waiter even make excuse that 6 waiters were absent that time. Aren’t there any reliever??!!
Am not posting this to ruin such a good rep. BUt good customer service is more than just giving a deliciously cooked food. It’s giving the kind of service that the customer is expecting. And I believe Penong’s need to train their staff to give “wow service”. Because if they don’t, an irated customer really spreads words that can have a multiplier effect!

anyway, me and jean ate at penongs again last nite, and for the first time in ages the usually patient and amiable jean complained about the service as well. ironic isn’t it? I will not go into details anymore in respect to sir Jayvee, but I really hope and wish to see better customer service next time we visit Penongs. We still love that place!
ei…. masarap tlaga ang pagkain sa penongs…but the service is not so good……i agree with ana, she actually described the problem of the restaurant….sometimes, the crew has no pleasing personality and good moral as well…hope that u will resolve those problem as soon as possible….
one thing that your bbq tastes good, its just because of your bbq sauce….BAKIT NINYO PINAGDADAMOT ang sauce? hmmp… pinagpapabili ninyo ang sauce for P3.00 ….. your bbq sauce is the best asset for your food right? so it is good for you to price off your sauce…
sana mabago na ninyo ang inyong sistema kasi sa napapansin namin ngayon, kumukunti na lang ang inyong customers… sana napanpansin niyo din ‘yon….

Eversince, i and my friends love talaga ang penongs. At ako ang nag recommend sa kanila….Actually paborito ko ang Matina branch ng Penongs….Masarap kasi, dito na branch ang pinaka juicy……
Pero nung kumain kami sa Ilustre na branch, I dissapointed and inis talag masyado
,,, hindi ko nagustohan ang customer service, ilang time na kami kumain, tapos pag mag order kami, matagal masyado pumupunta ang incharge sa ordering form, or in short “matagal mamansin”…… tpos yung mga waiter pa palaging nag tsismis2, ilang beses na ako nagtawag pero matagal tumingin………. deadma ,masyado,,,,,,gutom2 na talag kami……doon lang man ako na disapoint sa ilustre branch….
Hopefully, mag orrientation kau uli regarding about customer service……..

Nah! ok man ang PENONG’s..lami man ang pagkaon..PERO dugay kaau ang SERBISYO…maabtan na lng kag 30 minutos wala ghapon imong gi-order…ang mga waiter nag sige lng bahis-bahis…yaya lng ang serbisyo…malagot ka bago ka makakaon ug lami…:(
